New month, new banner. Where’s the choo-choo, you ask? It’s right there. October is my month for ghost trains, and the 2011 edition features Brian Carpenter’s Ghost Train Orchestra. This New York City ensemble, founded in 2006 by Bostoner Brian Carpenter, specializes in jazz tunes from the 1920’s and 30’s, long gone, but happily, not forgotten. Gives me the chills just thinking about it.
You can find out more about the Ghost Train Orchestra and purchase their debut album, “Hothouse Stomp,” at their website, http://ghosttrainorchestra.com/.
Naturally, the Ghost Train Orchestra plays to the beat of subjective time, using an antique metronome from Harlem’s old Cotton Club.
